Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What materials do I need for this course? Answer: Basic acrylic paints, brushes, canvas/paper as well as scrap paper for collages (junk mail is a favorite of mine!). As you progress, you might explore more diverse materials. I also include lots of digital downloads for you to use as reference.

Q. Is this course suitable for absolute beginners? Answer: Yes, this course is designed to cater to all skill levels, from beginners to more advanced artists.

Q. How long is each painting lesson? Answer: Each monthly course is broken down into several 15 to 30 minute modules. The monthly content varies, but it is generally about 2 hours in length. And you can replay the lessons for as long as you are a member.

Q. Can I get feedback on my paintings? Answer: Absolutely! I offer regular feedback myself in our Facebook Group and encourage all of our members to contribute encouragement and support.

Q. Will I learn about both mixed media and general painting? Answer: YES, absolutely. There is a mixed media component to all lessons because that is my favorite medium, and I'll show you how to make the layered backgrounds you've enjoyed seeing in my work as well as ways to paint vivid flowers and other subjects!

Q. How is color theory relevant to my painting? Answer: Studies show that COLOR is the first thing people register when they feel, "I like that painting." Color is an artist's superpower. Not only does color make people want to hang a painting on the wall, but having a simple, clear way of using color allows you to express your own emotions and adds depth to the process of creating art.

Q. Are the Classes Live or Pre-recorded? Answer: Classes are pre-recorded, and you can access them anytime online as long as you are a member.

Q. Can I cancel at any time? Answer: Yes, you can cancel at any time right from your student dashboard. You have complete control over cancelation.

Q. How can I interact with other students and Cathy? Answer: We have a vibrant private Facebook community where you can share work, ideas, and get inspired. You can ask questions of other artists as well as Cathy there.

Q. What magic will I be able to create because of Joy of Painting? You will unlock the secrets of color theory, level up your painting skills, and craft a personal color palette that truly reflects your artistic spirit. You'll be able to create work that looks beautiful and touches the soul!
